Problems sending emails

If you have experienced any issues sending emails through Universal or through your normal email client (e.g Outlook), the problem may be due to your domain not having an SPF record. Typical problems are emails not reaching the end user or emails bouncing back from email addresses that you know are correct.

Why add an SPF record?

The purpose of an SPF record is to prevent spammers from sending messages with forged From addresses at your domain. It also helps the receiving ISP to validate the authenticity of the emails you send. Some ISP's now refuse to accept mail from domains without SPF records, therefore having a correctly set up SPF record is extremely important.

  • If using our SMTP servers & google mail
    v=spf1 include:_spf.google.com include:spf.protection.thesaurus.org.uk -all

  • If using our services only and another known SMTP server
    v=spf1 include:spf.protection.thesaurus.org.uk ip4:x.x.x.x -all
